Step 3 - Configuring QuickTime for OMSThe final stage of setting up Auralia to work with your synthesiser is to tell QuickTime to use your OMS-configured synthesiser. Open the “QuickTime Settings” control panel. If you don’t have this control panel or it doesn’t appear as below then install QuickTime 4.1 from the Auralia CD. Select Music from the popup menu which will produce the following window:
This is the list of currently available QuickTime synthesisers to use and only includes QuickTime’s built-in sounds. We will now add your own General MIDI synthesiser. Click on Edit List... which shows the following window:
Click on Add which adds a new synthesiser to the list. Select General MIDI from the popup menu in the Synthesiser column. Select the name you gave the synthesiser in the OMS Setup program from the popup menu in the MIDI Port column. Give your synthesiser a name in the Name column. The window should now appear as follows:
Click on OK to return to the previous window which should now include your synthesiser in the list. Select your synthesiser so the window appears similar to as follows:
Click in the close box to close the control panel. QuickTime is now configured to send any MIDI signals (such as those from Auralia) to the selected synthesiser. If you want to return to using the built-in instruments, just open the “QuickTime Settings” control panel and select QuickTime Music Synthesiser. TroubleshootingProblem: I can’t hear any sound from Auralia when I open a drill. Problem: I still hear the built-in instruments even when I’ve selected
my synthesiser from the list in the QuickTime Settings control panel. Solution: Select Edit List... in the control panel and make sure that your synthesiser is set to General MIDI in the Synthesiser column. |
